While it wasn't ever directly stated on the show ( thus far anyway ) when her ability first manifested itself, she mentions in Four Months Ago that she accidentally set her grandmother's house on fire when she was six, caused a blackout in four counties when she was eight, and spent her ninth birthday in a glass room with an IV of lithium in her arm. In a later conversation with Bennet, Elle is told that she was subjected to brutal rounds of experimentation to test her wattage when she was very young, and that her father was the one who insisted that they continue the tests, even when it became apparent that the experiments were causing her harm. Very possibly because of these inhumane experiments, Elle was diagnosed as a sociopath by shrinks, although she attributes their diagnosis to the fact that she threatened to kill them. Because of this ( or maybe simply because her father keeps her on such a tight leash ), she's spent her entire life within the confines of the Company. She enjoys playing around with her powers by shocking other people. Whether she intends to harm them or merely gets off on using her ability is unclear. In many ways, Elle is very childlike. But at the same time she shouldn't be underestimated. She can also be quite lethal, especially when she is trying to impress her dad or is following orders. She's incredibly obedient, largely in part because she doesn't know anything else. It has been alluded to that certain incidences have been erased from Elle's memory - probably to assure her full cooperation without her emotions getting in the way. Despite her permanent imprisonment and unpleasant past experiences, her personality remains bubbly and friendly - over-friendly, in many cases, particularly around new men. She aims to please when it comes to being daddy's good little girl which could lead to problems in the future if she goes out of her realm of expertise and tries to take on more than she can handle to prove herself. | |||||||||
